Wink For the Love of Food!

What makes a regular person transform into a “foodie”? Is it because true foodies are just born that way? Or is it the scene of knowing there is better food beyond the plain old macaroni and cheese box hidden away in the pantry?

I know for myself about twenty years ago I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I didn’t spend my afternoons watching cartoons because I remember watching Great Chef of the U.S. and Great Chefs of the World. What they did with just everyday food truly inspired me and it grew from there. Now every time I went over to my grandparent’s house I would pull out the pots and pans, sit on the floor and pretend I was making something like one of the chefs like on tv. There are no mistakes to life’s funny ways of showing us what we will become.

Foodies aren’t just limited to chefs…no! There are numerous people who crave good food and will pay top dollar to get their hands on it. Foodies are also travelers, bloggers, journalists, and just everyday people. But we all have something in common and that is food. We need food to live from day to day and no matter where we live we can always find all sorts of food, either the good and wholesome foods to the deep and the rich foods that may scare off the doctors.

It doesn’t matter if the whole world is at war, if we can smile at each other than the same feelings are shared between the two people, who come from different backgrounds. And food is the same, whether if we share a meal of pot stickers and eggrolls to just simple items like breads and fruits, we share that common bond.

Each culture has its native dish- just like every country has its own flag. What Pho is the Vietnamese; French Onion soup is to the French. No matter how we cook, season, or eat the food we know still know more about the food more then the “average Joe”. But that may be the problem; sometimes people don’t know good food when they see it. However, who can we blame…. no one really, it’s all over the place, newspapers with cheap discounts, television commercials, and even going to the place with the “One Dollar Menu” is starting to be seen in almost every fast food restaurants.

I know that the economy has seen better times, but I wonder why people are starting to push for more fast foods and think that they are getting the right nutrients they need for the meal when the meal is stuffed with MSG’s and what ever else they can get into the Big Mac or Whoppers. But I can’t change the way people eat, but if I could I would try…I just need to work on getting my own place and start a healthier way of eating the foods people crave. Using the highest and freshest quality of foods, which I’m happy to say and see that a lot of food stores now are starting to focus on the Free Range and Organic!

So just think, the next time you go out to eat or to the grocery store what will you get? Remember, you are what you eat…
