Our “Chefs Speak Out” focus this month is Linda Vogler, culinary coordinator at DC Central Kitchen, who will speak about this amazingly successful and life-changing foodservice-training program for homeless men and women at CAFÉ's 6th–Annual Leadership Conference at Baltimore International College on June 26. Hotel deadlines for the conference are approaching! Reserve by May 14 for SpringHill Suites by Marriott and by May 24 for Residence Inn by Marriott to lock in the special discounted CAFÉ rate at either property close to the college.
Congratulations to Mary Petersen for receiving the 2009–2010 Chef Educator of the Year Award from Cordon d'Or–Gold Ribbon! The lavish awards ceremony and dinner at the Don Cesar Resort in St. Pete Beach in late April was a fitting tribute to Mary's more than a score of years pioneering professional–development opportunities for foodservice educators.
Mary and I hope to see you at the NRA Show in Chicago later this month. (Read Christopher Koetke's overview in Green Tomato of a wealth of new “green” topics and programming at this year's show.) Meanwhile, enjoy May's Gold Medal Classroom, and we'll see you again in June.
